With Earth Month nearly upon us, we invite you to attend a unique exhibition that celebrates one of Santa Barbara’s most valuable natural assets – oceans – through science-inspired art.
A Sense of a [Future] Ocean is the debut of provocative art installations by two acclaimed artists, Skye Moret and Ozge Samanci, who are using their talents in data-driven design and media arts, respectively, to inspire visions of and actions toward desirable futures for our oceans. The event will take place on Sunday, March 31st from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at SBCAST (513 Garden St. Santa Barbara).
Moret and Samanci are currently artists in residence at The Squire Foundation and the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS), a research center at UC Santa Barbara. Through an innovative partnership between these two organizations, artists and environmental scientists are able to meet, learn from each other, and apply out-of-the-box thinking to their work. The intended results are not just inspiring artwork but also news ways of answering some of our most pressing environmental questions.
This exhibition will provide you an opportunity to meet these artists and learn how collaborations between artists and scientists can help lead us toward a desirable future for oceans and people.
