Kate Digby is an Associate Director of Dance at Kansas State University, where she teaches Modern, Improvisation, Composition, Anatomy, and Movement Fundamentals, and directs the K-State Contemporary Dance Ensemble.
Digby’s research involves the creation and presentation of original interdisciplinary performance works which integrate biosensing technology for the purpose of enhancing human connection. Digby’s upcoming immersive performance project, Simurgh (www.simurghproject.org), has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, Kansas State University and generous individual donors. While Simurgh is in development, The Red Horse Is Leaving, a play written by Erika Batdorf which Digby choreographed and directed, is touring the US and Canada. Prior to her appointment at KSU, Digby worked as a choreographer, performer and teacher in New York City and Boston where she had opportunities to perform with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company (as an apprentice), David Parker & The Bang Group, Prometheus Dance, and The Boston Dance Collective. She led Digby Dance, (www.digbydance.org), from 2000-2010 choreographing over 30 works for the company and presenting them across the US, in Canada and India.
Digby has previously served on the faculties of The Boston Conservatory, the Conservatory Division of the Longy School of Music, Roxbury Community College, and New York University’s Athletic Department. She holds an MFA in Dance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a BFA from the Boston Conservatory, and teaching certifications in Yoga, The Batdorf Technique, Moving for Life Dance Exercise for Health® and Body-Mind Dancing™.
